"Gypsies Released"
in The Cyprus Weekly, May 22-28, 1998
The three Greek Gypsies detained in the occupied areas [Northern Cyprus] following their apprehension by Turkish
troops in the buffer zone area of Strovilia last week were released on Monday.
Police say the three men, Costas Demetriou, 35, Georgios Charalambous, 35, and Georgios Alexiou, 26, were released
on Monday afternoon.
The three men, who had been held since May 11, were said to be in good health and did not bear any signs of injury.
The United Nations noted it was trying to get the Turkish Cypriot authorities to return the car the three men were
travelling in when they were apprehended. Some of their personal belongings, including their passports, were in
the car.
